Ranch opening day breaks records

O’Keefe Ranch’s opening weekend was a hit.

More than 1,200 people checked out the historic site Sunday, marking the beginning of the 2008 season.

“It was wonderful to see so many families having a great time at O’Keefe Ranch,” said Marilyn Berglund, marketing manager.

“People were pretty much from the local area.”

The general store experienced a record-breaking day as visitors enjoyed heritage candies and treats.

“Our saddle maker and potter offered demonstrations and of course Mrs. Schubert was in her home spinning and weaving for our guests,” said Berglund.

A highlight of the day was the dedication of the new Deep Creek bridge.

Gorman Bros. donated lumber and manpower for the bridge that was built early this spring.

Also contributing significantly to the project were the Pioneer Power Club and Bosworth Trucking.

“Our next big event will be Mother’s Day when all mothers are welcomed free,” said Berglund.

“But, come out before then to see newborn lambs and piglets. There is always something fun going on here at the ranch.”
