You can help design this fictitious candidate by filling out the
form below.

Strive for a democracy in which all citizens can be participants in decisions
which affect their lives.
DIRECTORS
Require directors to canvass and receive at least 10% of the local residents written and
signed wishes, before directors make a decision on something, as well as require
directors to base the decisions on the written and signed wishes of the
residents. Directors not permitted to make decisions themselves.
TRANSFER STATION
Immediately change the hours at the current transfer stations (Sugar Loaf and
Traders Cove) to be open 24/7, plus man the transfer stations for a few hours per
day to clean up what residents may have disposed of improperly, with the transfer
station attendant manning each station only long enough to keep the stations tidy
and no set hours.
Residents would be given a code to get in the gate at the transfer station much
like the gates they have for pay parking with an arm that swings up or a gate
that slides sideways.
Also allow large items to be disposed of no matter what it is, including fridges,
furniture, electronics, at the Sugar Loaf and Traders Cove transfer stations.
Accept hazardous waste as well. Recycleables for refund would still need
to go to Vernon or Kelowna. Add additional smaller transfer stations at subdivisions to help
cut down fuel, time, and pollution. The Sugar Loaf and Traders Cove
transfer stations would be where large items, hazardous waste and yard trimmings
would be disposed of along with kitchen and household waste. Only
household and kitchen garbage would be accepted at each subdivision. Could
have hydro extend the power lines from Westside Road to the Sugar Loaf transfer
station probably for approx what the attendant earns in one year, so a video
camera could be installed to catch culprits and then the transfer station would
not have to be manned full-time.
VOTE BOOTHS
Look into installing voting boxes at stores along Westside Road (Little Kingdom,
Sun Valley gas, and La Casa) or at the mailboxes. You could place your
vote in the box and have a voice if you wish. Maybe a suggestion box/vote
box.
ASSOCIATIONS
As it is right now the North Westside Communities Association has a very strong
voice in the North Westside Road area and you have no choice but to go along with this
association. No more associations! You can speak for yourself without an
association putting words in your mouth for you. For instance if the
President (Harry Pospolita) of the North Westside Communities Association has
something to say, he will only be speaking for himself and not the rest of the
members of the association unless the association members sign a letter or
petition and the president hands in the letters or petition supported by the
members. This way you double check the real wishes of the association.
BULLETIN BOARDS
Look into having the bulletin boards revised. No more pins and staples or
bulletins flying off in the wind. Could design slots using clear plastic
that bulletins could fit into just like on the front of the green newsletter
boxes that the local newsletter comes in. One section of slots could be
poster size and another section letter size and another section business card
size. People would be restricted to designing their bulletins and posters
to fit the slots. The bulletin board will look more organized, neat and
tidy by doing this.
WATER SYSTEM
Hurry up the ground water study for Upper Fintry and Valley of the Sun!
Also double check that Upper Fintry and Valley of the Sun won't be paying for
other users water system upgrades. If so negotiate the costs!
VEHICLE INSURANCE RATES
Help try to bring insurance rates down and save animals by installing signs
where most animals are being hit along Westside Road and clear back the brush in
these areas. Have Argo snow plow and fix the roads in a more timely, as
well as make sure Argo is reporting the animals being hit along Westside Road
properly. Have ICBC pay for the local Fire Dept. callouts instead of
taxpayers. Take the 60 km speed limit signs down along Westside Road as
nobody uses them anyway, and if they do use the 60 km speed limit, those are the
drivers that cause other drivers to take risk passing and at the same time
putting their own lives at more risk. Let people drive to their own
ability and their own vehicle. Big trucks don't handle the same as
motorcycles do. If a driver causes an accident, then really sock it to
them and make them pay for more of the damage than they do, as it would be their
fault. If you place the blame on the driver and give the driver more of
the monetary responsibility, then maybe the driver will think to take more
responsibility the next time, or give up their drivers licence and take the bus.
Another thing make it law that people crossing the road has to make sure the way
is clear before crossing. There shouldn't be joggers and cyclist on
Westside Road until there is a bike and jogging lane. Bikers and joggers
should stick to the side roads where they don't breath vehicle fumes.
Bicyclists should not be mixed with vehicles but be mixed with the ones who
walk. It would be much better being a walker being hit by a bicyclist,
than a bicyclist being hit by a car. If the bike/walking lane is too
crowded then that bike lane would need to be widened, just like any road would
to accommodate cars. Might get more people to ride bikes if they were not
afraid of being hit by a car ... at least in cities anyway.
FIRE/PINE BEETLE
Design a bylaw in regards to property owners cleaning up their own dead and
diseased trees on their own properties. Find some place that property
owners who cannot burn or bury their dead trees can take their dead trees for
disposal in the local area. (How about the gravel pit up from Sugar Loaf
transfer station? The fire dept could have a practice burn. Investigate a market for the dead trees instead of
disposing of them. They may make good pellet stove fuel? Also
investigate Tolko and other companies that may take pine beetle killed trees. The pine
beetles would most likely be killed in the compression stage of making the
pellets.
FOREST FIRES
Design and build a fire break around each subdivision near a forest. Require new
developments to install sprinklers on the top of each fire hydrant that would
shoot as far as the ones in the farmers corn field. For existing
developments, start installing sprinklers around the outside of the subdivisions
to start with and eventually have sprinklers on all the fire hydrants.
ENVIRONMENT
Get rid of the carbon tax and instead promote car pooling, clean air and
alternative fuel burning vehicles, solar electricity, solar hot water (large
part of a homes power bill), geothermal home heating, local agriculture, wind
power, stream power, ocean tide power, etc. Start using electric cars in
cities and install power plugs in businesses parking lots and along streets.
How about underground fridges that pop out of the floor to keep things cool lol??
Nothing cleaner than an electric car. New technology is where its at.
INTERNET VOTING
Internet accessibility to referendum, initiative and recall so that every issue
debated on the floor in the legislature could be voted on in various locations
around the province and give legislative powers to that decision.
HEALTHCARE
Forget water meters when more money needs to be put into healthcare. We
shouldn't have code purples at all unless there was a real emergency like in the
case of the United States twin towers being blown up.

Highlights of the Regional Board Meeting– July 21, 2008
New Elections Bylaw Adopted
The Regional Board has adopted a new bylaw outlining procedures for
elections in the Central Okanagan Regional District. Among the
additions approved for the Local Government Election this fall in
the Central Okanagan East and West Electoral Areas is the provision
for
a mail-in ballot which is
now allowed as a result of amendments made by the Province to the
Local Government Act. As well, because of the
Remembrance Day Statutory Holiday falling on the Tuesday prior to
General Voting on Saturday, November 15th, Advance Voting will be
held on Wednesday, November 5th and Wednesday, November 12th. |

Never doubt the ability of a small group of concerned
citizens to change the world. In fact, it is the only thing that ever has.
