NAME: Tina Miller COMMENTSIt is very sad to see a rift in the community. I feel that the community association is made up of a lot of very caring and well meaning people, who put a lot of effort and time into making this a better place to live. That said though, it is important to make sure that what you see and want in a community isn't necessarily forced on others. Also, when money is involved, then you can't arbitrarily try to raise taxes etc. to further the needs of a community association. It is usually through matching grant money and fund raising activities that this is done. It shouldn't matter if each center or area has a separate community group or not. I would think that all the communities might have their own social groups that you could belong to, but that the director would meet with and bring the needs of this whole area together for the good of the area. We shouldn't feel that people from further out districts should belong to our community association, just to stay informed or to get anything done. That isn't fair to them. Community associations and the politics that can go on in them and/or clicky groups are things that some people just try to stay away from. If you don't want to become involved or can't at this time then you shouldn't be penalized. When I was teaching in Calgary, we received a ballot in the mail from the Alberta Teachers' Association and then we mailed it back by a certain date, so that we could have our vote counted. We received other mailings for information also. That seemed like a feasible solution at the time and another possibility here. When I looked around the room at the meeting I was surprised that I didn't see some of my neighbors there, so there has to be a way to send out information to people and to conduct voting on money issues without necessarily belonging to an association. If you do vote on something that is going to need money like enlarging the community hall, kitchen improvements, playgrounds etc. then expect to raise that money by doing your fundraising, raising your dues and applying for government grants etc. User pays! The firehall issue is another problem. I would hope that frivolous things would not be purchased with the available money, so that things that are really necessary have to be purchased through higher taxes. A community of our size doesn't go out and buy a fireboat. I don't pretend to be an authority on fire safety and would hope someone with the experience and knowledge would be allowed to lead the way. I hope that someone is Dave Robertson. Thanks for your time. I would just like to add one thing, at the end of the day, who do you suppose was left there to put away the chairs etc. of course, Harry P. I'm just glad we were able to stay there and assist him as it would have been a very late night for him.
