This letter below was posted to the bulletin board on April 30, 2008 by Allastair Fergusson (Fergie), president of
the North Westside Ratepayers Association.
Allastair Fergusson's letter is addressed to residents of the local communities
from Westshores in the North to Traders Cove in the South which include the
communities of Westshore Estates, Killiney Beach, Estamont, Ewings Landing,
Valley of the Sun, Muir or Upper Fintry, Fintry Delta or Lower Fintry, all the
way to traders cove.

Dear Mr. Hettinga:
Please be advised the North Westside Ratepayers Association, after conducting a
poll of our members, does not support and in fact vigorously opposes the
initiative and proposal to purchase a Fireboat for the North Westside Fire
Protection area.
It is our understanding that there are various water craft in our area which
could be contracted for at a much reduced cost rather than a purchase.
Further, we believe the manpower required to operate this watercraft as well as
the need, extensive training and maintenance detrimentally outweighs any
justification for such a craft.
It is our belief that the one hundred and fifty thousand dollars ($150,000.00)
as budgeted for would be better used in expanding our fire department through
the purchase of more conventional firefighting equipment.
We trust our comments will be given serious consideration by the Board of
Directors, the Firefighters Technical Committee and will vote accordingly when
this matter again comes before council.
