NAME: Marsali MacIver COMMENTSI would like to support the comments made by Mr. Patterson earlier this week. As a former member of the Board of Directors of the former Ratepayers Association and a current member of the Board of the North Westside Communities Association I firmly believe that if we are to have any impact at the Regional District we need to do it with a cohesive and reasoned voice. I personally don't understand why we can't engage in open and productive dialogue with one voice, one association and many opinions and perspectives represented. I, for one, am open to soliciting opinions from as many residents who are willing to come forward to support and help build our community. It's the only way for us to work together ... we have to communicate our individual preferences and then work together towards a common vision that represents the needs of the majority of the community. As the Valley of the Sun resident says: That's democracy. Okanaganlakebc.com says: We already belong to one association RDCO, and RDCO should listen to us but they don't. Belonging to another association that everyone doesn't belong to is not the right way to go either. Everyone belongs to RDCO. Having another association means paying more money to have an association (membership dues). One problem with the North Westside Communities Association has been that some residents don't feel listened to. Some residents felt the North Westside Ratepayers Association would listen to them a little better. NAME: COMMENTSI agree with Andy Patterson, and I am sure most people would agree that we don't need any more associations as we already belong to an association called Central Okanagan West. The problem has been the way things are governed. Community Association's and Director's should not be forcing their own final decisions on the electorate. Director really should mean direct the public so that the public has correct and true information, so that the public can make the final informed decision. This is called democracy. NAME: Andy Patterson COMMENTSI know I speak for many of my neighbours when I say that the formation of another group to lobby on behalf of the residents of the North Westside, rather than working to make changes within the existing organization (North Westside community association) is most unfortunate, particularly when the whole governance issue is on the table. We have a small enough voice as it is, now with the community divided, it will be almost non existent. There will always be divisions and disagreements within this community as there is in any other. I suppose the logical solution to this, based on the "ratepayers" approach, would be to form a new association each time a disagreement occurs. In due course no doubt we would then have an association for each family in the area ! Shame on you (although I will at least agree with your democratic claims if you actually post this)
