Okanagan Lake is a very large lake and has many activities to offer; fishing, boating, water skiing, jet skiing, tenting, camping, boat cruising and touring, etc. There are so many things to do around Okanagan Lake that it is to many to list them all here.
Okanagan Lake provides waterskiing and jetskiing, canoeing, etc. There are a few opportunities around Okanagan Lake to rent jet skis, sea doos, ski boats, patio boats, pontoon boats, or fishing boats. There is a sign at Bear Creek Park along Westside Road for boat and jetski rentals, as well Lake Okanagan Marina has boat rentals and jetski rentals at Lake Okanagan Resort just ten minutes north of Bear Creek Park on Westside Road. There is Lakeside Boat Rentals 250-307-7368 near Vernon and Turtle Bay Marina 1-877-601-8858 rents boats at Winfield, Owls Nest Resort & Marina also has boat rentals in Oyama BC which is 20 minutes north of Kelowna BC and 10 minutes south of Vernon BC, Dockside Marine in Kelowna BC also has boat rentals.
The Westside of Okanagan Lake, boasts spectacular scenery and wildlife. On the Westside of Okanagan Lake along Westside Road, you will find the more rural areas of vacationing on Okanagan Lake. Driving from Kelowna BC, Westside Road is a narrow winding road with sharp corners in some places, and there are many deer so be careful. You may even see some California big horn sheep, marmots, coyotes, bear, osprey, and eagles as they all live in the Westside Road area. If you are from the city you will notice the sounds of birds and frogs and you may even hear a wood pecker. Nice way to spend your vacation if you wish to view wildlife and get away to the country. Driving from Vernon BC Westside Road is less winding and narrow but there are deer and bear and even cows and horses to watch out for, as the OKIB reserve has an open range.
Across Okanagan Lake from downtown Kelowna BC and a little south on the Westside in the Boucherie Road area of Okanagan Lake there are many lakeside vacation rentals. The Boucherie Road area is famous for its wineries, vineyards and the Gellatly Nut Farm located at 2375 Whitworth Rd, Westbank, BC. There is Quails' Gate Estate Winery, Mount Boucherie Estate Winery, and Mission Hill Winery. There is a cold beer and wine store just off highway 97 at the corner of Boucherie Road as well.
Penticton BC is situated in the lower half of the Okanagan Valley between Skaha and Okanagan Lakes. Penticton is famous for tubing down their canal, so take your inner tube, air mattress and other water toys with you if you go. Bring your highest protection sun tan lotion, and you will want to find a shady spot if your camping.
Lake Country includes the communities of Winfield, Carr's Landing, Okanagan Centre, and Oyama. Lake Country is famous for having the most lakeshore of any municipality in British Columbia with Lake Country having four communities sandwiched between Okanagan Lake in the west with Duck Lake, Wood Lake, and the southern part of Kalamalka Lake in the east. The area smells nice in the summer as there are many orchards. The best time to visit is in the summer when all the fruit is ready for picking, as you get the best flavour when its picked right off the tree. Some of BC's best fruit is grown in the Okanagan. Some fruits and vegetables famously grown in the Okanagan are peaches, apricots, cherries, apples, asparagus, and tomatoes. Okanagan Centre is very beautiful, small and quaint. Okanagan Centre Safe Harbour provides safety for boaters during a storm with one of the only safe harbours in the area. The harbour contains two docks for emergency and pedestrian use, a small swimming beach and a boat launch. At Carrs Landing there is Coral Beach Park and Kopje Park, plus many more parks in Lake Country. You'll have to stop by Gatzkes Farm Market along the highway if you visit Oyama for local Oyama fresh fruit and bakery items. Gatzkes Farm Market also includes comfortable lodging at cabins that overlook both the Kalamalka and Wood lakes. There is a farm museum at Gatzke's Farm and they have tours of the orchards there as well. And while your are in Oyama, you have to visit the little store found between Woods Lake and Kalamalka Lake, as there isn't another store like it. This store is interesting if you are into antiques and used things. You will find the gentleman running the store just as interesting. There are two vineyards and wineries that operate out of Lake Country called Arrowleaf Cellars and Gray Monk Cellars, which both are conveniently located side by side on Camp Road at Okanagan Centre.
For an even more exciting and broader view there is a company called High Terrain Helicopters who take tourists on helicopter rides high in the sky above Kelowna.
The Regional District of Central Okanagan list of parks, lists parks with beaches, or where you can take your dog for a walk, and which parks have hiking trails. This list covers Lake Country, Westside Road, Kelowna, etc. If you want to hike some trails here is the list of Regional Park hiking trails. Peachland BC is famous for its triathalons. In the more southernly end of Peachland there is Hardy Falls Regional Park, Antlers Beach plus many more parks to visit in Peachland BC which is 380 km East of Vancouver BC.
In Vernon BC from Okanagan Landing Road at Paddlewheel Park, you can charter a boat or take a boat cruise by climbing aboard the "Spirit of the Okanagan", Cruise Okanagan's 42' Tour Boat for the ultimate sight-seeing experience of Okanagan Lake.
If you are spending lots of time in the sun, you don't want to get heat stroke so make sure you drink plenty of water, drink less alcohol, and wear sunglasses and a hat if you can! Swimming will wear off your suntan lotion so keep smothering on the suntan lotion and have fun. If you think you will have a hang over in the morning eat and drink water before bed, and take a vitamin B12, as a vitamin B12 seems to help a hang over.
Also don't drink and drive in your boat as the police have a boat out on the lake with police officers using binoculars. If you are shy, don't take a pee where those binoculars can see (Okanaganlakebc.com learned from this experience)! The police paid a visit to say the numbers on our boat were not big enough (for their binoculars I guess) as soon as the pee was over. Don't exactly know what they saw, but it was embarrassing to think if they were watching with those binoculars they were using.
